Terms of use

Plain language, because these actually have to be read. Using Q/KOM Hunters means agreeing to them.

1. What this is

Q/KOM Hunters is a free, non-commercial, invite-only hobby project. It reads your own Strava data and estimates when the wind will make you faster on segments you have starred. It is run by one person in their spare time. There is no company behind it, no payment, no advertising, and no service level of any kind.

2. Who can use it

You need a Strava account, an invite, and to be at least 16 years old. One account per person.

3. The predictions are estimates

Everything the app tells you about times, wind advantage, and crown probability is a model output, not a measurement. It is built on a weather forecast, an approximate elevation profile, and assumptions about you that are fitted from past efforts. It is wrong regularly, and the app tries to say by how much rather than hide it.

No warranty is given that any figure here is accurate, current, or fit for any purpose. Do not make decisions that matter on the basis of a number in this app alone.

4. Riding is your responsibility

This is the important one. The app suggests when the air will favour you. It knows nothing about traffic, road surface, weather you can see out of the window, your health that morning, or anything else that determines whether riding hard is a good idea.

You alone decide whether, when, and how hard to ride, and you are responsible for doing so safely and legally. Ride within your ability and obey traffic law. Chasing a segment time is never a reason to take a risk.

5. Acceptable use

The Guidelines form part of these terms. Breaking them can cost you access.

6. Invites, and what vouching means

Members can invite a small number of people. An invite is a vouch for someone you know, not something to publish.

If somebody you invited is removed for breaking the Guidelines, your own account is flagged for review. Review means a person looks at it and decides — it is not an automatic removal, it does not cascade further up the chain, and it does not apply to invites issued by an administrator. You will be told if it happens.

7. Access can be withdrawn

Membership is a revocable privilege. Access may be suspended or removed for breaking the Guidelines, for abusing the service or its third-party APIs, or because the project stops running. Removal deletes everything the app holds about you.

You can leave at any time from Settings, and revoke the app's Strava access from Strava. If you think a decision about your account was wrong, write to hello@qkom.sbnck.de and it will be looked at again.

8. Liability

The service is provided as-is and free of charge. Liability is limited to intent and gross negligence, and to the breach of essential contractual duties — in which case it is limited to foreseeable damage typical of this kind of agreement.

Liability for injury to life, body or health, and liability under the German Product Liability Act, is not excluded or limited. German law does not permit that, and this document does not attempt it.

9. Third parties

The app depends on Strava, Open-Meteo, OpenStreetMap and others. Their terms apply to you in parallel with these, their outages are not something this project can fix, and it can be shut down at any time by a change on their side. What is shared with whom is in the Privacy page.

10. Changes

These terms carry a version. If they change materially you will be asked to accept the new version the next time you open the app, rather than being deemed to have agreed to something quietly edited.

11. Law

German law applies, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country you live in. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stands.
